#FANHS PA supports "Hope and Harmony," Philippine Folk Arts Society, Inc./PFASI's Rondalla Concert, 28 October, 7 pm EST

The Philippine Folk Arts Society, Inc. (PFASI), featuring the Philadelphia region's premier Philippine rondalla/string ensemble, invites you all to “Hope and Harmony,” PFASI’s 9th annual rondalla concert on October 28, 2021 at 7 pm EST. With “Hope and Harmony” as PFASI’s 2021 theme, one goal of the virtual rondalla concert is for everyone to find hope in uplifting music and the cultural strengths of gathering - even virtually - as a supportive community. For it’s this hope found in culture and community that sustains us amidst ongoing struggles for racial justice, the challenges of health care, rising militarization, and the need for creating harmony in our fragile global home. While the virtual concert is free to viewers, donations are encouraged and will support Pakiglambigit 2021 - the Public Service, Extension, and Covid Outreach Program of the University of the Philippines College of Social Work and Community Development. Register for PFASI’s virtual concert here: pfasirondallaconcert.eventbrite.com FANHS Pennsylvania Chapter (FANHS PA) and the Philippine Folk Arts Society, Inc. (PFASI) have supported each other's work throughout the years. We look forward to seeing you at Hope and Harmony on October 27. UPDATED 29 October 2021 Congratulations to President Dr. Aida Navidad Rivera and everyone at PFASI for another successful PFASI Rondalla Concert, your 9th! Special thanks for so much hard work by the awesome video production team that includes Vivian Oano Murray and Marife Domingo. The whole concert is on YouTube. @FANHS_PA to host film screening + discussion with Dr. Judy Patacsil: "Silent Sacrifices: Voices of the Filipino American Family," on 21 August 2021 @ 3 pm EST

You're all -- plus your organizations, FANHS Chapters, friends, family - invited to join FANHS Pennsylvania Chapter at a film screening and discussion of "Silent Sacrifices: Voices of the Filipino American Family" with Dr. Judy Patacsil via https://bit.ly/FANHS-PA-Zoom on August 21st at 3 pm EST. Dr. Judy Patacsil, President Emerita of the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS), is Faculty Equity Coordinator and Professor of Filipino Studies at San Diego Miramar College where she also founded the Mental Health Counseling program. Born in San Diego, California to pioneering Filipino immigrant parents, Judy is the lead author of “Filipinos in San Diego” and a current FANHS San Diego Chapter officer. As a licensed psychotherapist who holds a doctorate in psychology with an emphasis in culture and human behavior, Judy co-authored the accompanying guide book for the film, “Silent Sacrifices: Voices of the Filipino American Family,” and has given international workshops and presentations on its still relevant themes since the early 2000's. She is a proud daughter of Eugenio Patacsil (RIP), a posthumously awarded WII Congressional Gold Medal recipient; and Virginia Patacsil (RIP), a pioneering WWII war bride, who was honored as Mother of the Year (1963) by the Filipino Women’s Club of San Diego. @FANHS_national founder Dorothy Laigo Cordova interviewed by @ChrisDaniels5 @King5Seattle

Dorothy Cordova Dorothy Cordova, 89, is the single most important person in preserving the region’s Filipino American History. At a small office in a vacant school building in Seattle’s Central District, she has collated decades worth of material and started a national historical society, with 36 chapters across the country. ((The Filipino American National Historical Society/FANHS is now 39 years old.)) She went to school in Seattle with the late community leader Bob Santos, and said she took on this project because, “The term we use is ‘forgotten Asian Americans,’ which we are. There was very little written about us."

Big congrats and many thanks to @FANHShtx for hosting a #FANHStastic 20th biennial @fanhs_national conference #fanhs2024!
