Evangeline "Vangie" Canonizado Buell, @FANHS_national President Emerita, spoke @FilipinaWomen's Network - 25 June 2021

"Buffalo soldiers didn't shoot Filipinos," said Vangie, while describing her grandfather's experiences as a Buffalo soldier in the Philippine-American War. She told moving stories about her grandfather who stayed in the Philippines and married her Filipina grandmother. You'll find more stories in Vangie's book, "25 Chickens and a Pig for a Bride: Growing up in a Filipino Immigrant Family," available at EastWind Books in Berkeley, California. https://www.asiabookcenter.com/store/p223/Twenty-Five_Chickens_and_a_Pig_for_a_Bride%3A_Growing_up_in_a_Filipino_Immigrant_Family.html Vangie also showed photos from her Acadia publication, "Filipinos in the East Bay."

@FANHS_national founder Dorothy Laigo Cordova interviewed by @ChrisDaniels5 @King5Seattle

Dorothy Cordova Dorothy Cordova, 89, is the single most important person in preserving the region’s Filipino American History. At a small office in a vacant school building in Seattle’s Central District, she has collated decades worth of material and started a national historical society, with 36 chapters across the country. ((The Filipino American National Historical Society/FANHS is now 39 years old.)) She went to school in Seattle with the late community leader Bob Santos, and said she took on this project because, “The term we use is ‘forgotten Asian Americans,’ which we are. There was very little written about us."
