July ~ 7/27/14

Dear FANHS Friends,

Greetings! Excitement is building and the countdown to the FANHS conference is now here this week (please see attached press release for additional conference details)! We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible this summer at the FANHS 2014 Conference in sunny San Diego!

Remember that we are planning a tribute for Uncle Fred on Wednesday night, July 30, 2014 at 8-10PM.  Former FANHS Trustee Meg Thornton is helping to coordinate. Please contact her by e-mail merrymeg@gmail.com if you wish to be a part of the tribute.  We will be dedicating the evening to “Uncle Fred”. This will allow a more organic time, for individuals to participate and or pay tribute to such an influential man. The evening will also set the tone for the entire 2014 FANHS Conference to be a tribute to Uncle Fred.

The FANHS 2014 Conference Authors Reception will be July 31, 2014 at 7-10PM and presenters are already confirmed (please see attached flyer).  However, if you wish to participate in the reception to sell and sign books, please contact Joe Mazares jmazares@yahoo.com. There is still an opportunity to participate as an author in this capacity.

The Kona Kai Hotel (location for the FANHS 2014 Conference) is SOLD OUT for the lower rate. Attached are lists of nearby places to stay. The Kona Kai required FANHS payment in full by 7/25/14. As a result, we have reached capacity for the conference registration with meals on Thursday and Friday. Online registration is now closed. Limited Saturday one day registration will be only on-site. This will be subject to space availability. Gala Dinner tickets sales will be subject to Kona Kai Hotel Discretion/Regulations. Click for additional hotels

As Comic Con leaves San Diego, the next great conference (the FANHS 2014 Conference) will come to San Diego. Some of you will be arriving as soon as Tuesday. We look forward to seeing you and we wish you safe travels. Our FANHS SD Chapter is excited to host the 2014 Conference. We are proud to come together in unity with FANHS Chapters throughout the United States as we represent a nationwide Filipino American community. We will all move forward in the spirit of kapwa and we will honor Dr. Fred Cordova our founding President.

Sincerely,

#FANHS2014 gala sponsorship extended to July 7 and more updates from Dr. Judy Patacsil

Dear FANHS Member,

Greetings! We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible this summer at the FANHS 2014 Conference in sunny San Diego. Attached are documents that we ask you to please disseminate to your FANHS Chapters, to colleagues, and to community contacts to help promote the FANHS Conference. This will help spread the information to as many as possible, and answer questions that you may have, especially as we head into the final stretch with less than one month now left to go before the conference.

Remember that we are planning a tribute on Wednesday, July 30, 2013 after 7:30PM. We will be dedicating the evening to “Uncle Fred”. This will allow a more organic time, (which please note that it may end before 11PM, depending on participation & coordinators) for individuals to participate and or pay tribute to such an influential man and the founder of Filipino American History Month. Having this tribute Wednesday night will help all of us to find comfort and solace among the FANHS family of friends. This will also set the tone for the entire 2014 FANHS Conference to be a tribute to Uncle Fred.

If your FANHS Chapter, your organization, or if you individually would like to put a tribute in the Gala Program, please consider doing so in the way that would be most meaningful to you. The deadline has been extended to July 7. Thank you to those of you who have already submitted an ad for the Gala.

If you have not yet registered, please see the attached registration form. You can also register on line at www.fanhs-sandiego.org our FANHS SD website. The website will be a place for updated information about the conference. The Kona Kai Hotel (location for the FANHS 2014 Conference) is SOLD OUT for the lower rate. However, attached is info on nearby accommodations in San Diego around Pt Loma. We also signed a contract for a few rooms at a nearby hotel in very pretty Little Italy for pre-conference dates. The hotel is calledPorto Vista Hotel at the low rate of $119, but you must book by July 7. The website iswww.portovistasd.com, and note the weekend rate during the conference is higher and requires a 2 night stay, but averages to less than $200 a night. Call the hotel directly619 544 0164 and ask for the FANHS room block.

Also note, that this year there will be a special post conference Forum on Filipino American Psychology. Dr. Patricia Heras and Dr. Debra Kawahara graciously organized and are coordinating the forum.  Please see attached and pass on to others and/or consider attending.

We are excited to host the 2014 Conference, as we come together in unity as a nationwide Filipino American community, to move forward in the spirit of kapwa and to honor Dr. Fred Cordova.

Sincerely,
Judy Patacsil
